This was an attempt but it didn’t work…

week-end and concert Monday, Sep 24 2007

So the Rhianna concert was alright…I was pretty tired by the time she started because we had been there since 7 and her concert started at around 10:15. I must admit Akon was much more engaging in his performance because he was really into the crowd. Rhianna just kinda danced around and walked and sang. Not much communication. But, aside from that fact, I had so much fun and saw lots of people I knew from just walking in the crowd. My laptop is being really stupid right now so I am going to get it fixed today. Hopefully it will be better before the end of the week because I have assignments to give out soon. I had a pretty uneventful week-end. Riders were uh……better luck next game.

rhianna concert Wednesday, Sep 19 2007

Hey, I’m so excited because Rhianna is playing in Saskatoon on Wednesday night. I’ll be road tripping with one of my hometown friends and hopefully the seats won’t be too bad. I got my tickets pretty cheap but it doesn’t matter. I’m still on the first floor. Hopefully I will be able to do some reading on the way there tho because I have class at 10 the next morning and we are coming back the same night. It is an event long awaited. She’s an amazing signer and still so young. She has a bright future ahead of her unless she becomes the next Britney Spears, which I really don’t wish for her. She is way too talented. Being a musician, singer and songwriter myself, I know how hard it is to stay focused on it with everything else that preoccupies me. She is doing amazing and I don’t care what anyone really says about the musical style. I know enough about music considering as it is my major in school and I’m very comfortable stating that it is not the genre that makes the music; it’s the voice!

Second week of school Wednesday, Sep 12 2007

It’s only the second week of school and I’m already so tired. I don’t know if anyone else feels the same but I’m starting to wish I hadn’t taken such a full load of classes. However, I’m really enjoying this class and aleady i’m learning more about internet and softwares than I did in all my genious technology classes from high school. Not that they were that genious, I’d just like to think of myself as a bit computer-smart. I’m so excited about the tux software, not only is it FREE, but I even enjoy playing it. I can’t imagine how my future students would like it….Then again, by then it will probably be old school and they will have upgraded to a type of tux…fashion design school or even a cooking class. All so interesting. I’m also fascinated by the google world. It’s great and I know I would never have tried it had it not been in this class. Now all I have to do is find the time to really explore it. Well that’s all for now. vero

Vero’s first Monday, Sep 10 2007

This feels like such a great and exciting new way of writing to myself, even though I’ve never been much of a journal writer. This might just be what I need and it’s great that I’m learning how to do this in an Education class. My name is Veronique Poulin. I am from a small town called Zenon Park and I am fluently bilingual in French and English. I am the 7th of eight children and feel very fortunate to have been raised in such a wonderful family with two great parents. I enjoy music and that is my passion. I am currently enrolled in the Education program through the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in Music and minoring in Theatre. I love to play sports; volleyball, snowboard, skating, and of course…playing hacky sack.

I have some background experience with technology but mostly from high school classes. I also worked on website translation for my hometown and upgrading one of the websites which was, unfortunately not very successful. I was still new to it all and did not have the skills to try to restart it all. Although, it did teach me many things about creating my own website, I do not feel comfortable attempting it again yet. I am very excited that chilrdren as young as 5 years old can begin learning about technology at such a young age. It is a completely different world and students can take advantage of their ability to search, to understand, and to contribute to recent technology. Students can not only surf for powerful tools such as blogs, information processors, and communication enablers, but they can take correspondence courses with other people from around the world with the same teacher-all through the screen of a computer. The limitation to this is that the learners may have more trouble succeeding in a class that is given on the computer because of a lack of one-on-one help from the teacher. There may also be some cyber usage that is negatively used in the school walls. The new technologies that englobe almost every youth are great ways of keeping in touch but take time away from other important aspects of the internet. It is also important to be able to draw the line between fun entertainment and educative entertainment. Only when these two can be intertwined can these new systems can be successfully used in the school environment.

I have yet to learn many things about technology and the internet. Even such a simple thing as a blog was unknown to me before this assignment. I am excited to begin this course and am open to anything that will be of use to me in the future. I hope that the instructor will be able to clearly explain and indicate which softwares are the best for which age groups and to explain some of the educational tools that could be used inside a classroom. I also would like to know more about websites and how I could start my own for my students one day.
